French Toast

Hi guys, ever had trouble making breakfast plans? Okay, well NOW you can make French Toast! It's really easy and super simple to make with only 5 ingredients! Check it out.

I've never cooked. I can't do much more in the kitchen
than make a cup of tea and some toast.
~ Ethel Merman

French Toast

2 eggs
4 slices bread
vegetable oil for frying
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon sugar

Beat eggs lightly with milk and sugar in a large bowl.
Heat a little oil in a frying pan.
Dip the bread into the egg mixture and fry.
When one side is golden brown, turn the over and cook the other side.
Serve hot.
You can also add cinnamon powder, fresh fruits, honey or maple syrup.

It says here as a cooking tip, to use a non-stick frying pan to reduce the amount of oil you will need and to place cooked French Toast on a kitchen paper to drain excess oil.

Now, if you remember it from the last post, the cupcake ideas from Bittersweet. Note that these are sort of the chapter headings, so the names may sound a little weird, but I guess you could change them if you want. I find them pretty funny.

Oatmeal Crisps and A Few Other Things

So here's another recipe from my textbook, egg-less with simple ingredients. And pretty healthy I guess. Plus, check out a bonus recipe below! Feel free to mix in raisins, for something a little fruitier.

Oatmeal Crisps

Ingredients

50g rolled oats
100g flour
150 ml milk
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 tablespoons honey
1/2 tsp cinnamon powder
75g cold butter, cut into small pieces

Preheat oven to 190 degrees C.
In mixing bowl, mix oats with flour,
baking powder and cinnamon.
Rub in butter until mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
Stir in honey and 120 ml milk to form soft dough.
Grease baking tin.
Scoop 2 tablespoons of the mixture into your flour hands.
Pat mixture into a round shape.
Place on the baking tin about 2 cm apart.
Brush the top of the shaped mixtures with the remaining milk.
Bake for 12-15 minutes.

The next recipe is sort of modified. Again my dad was watching Jamie Oliver on TV. So he tried one of his recipe's at home and it was actually pretty good. As I said, I modified it a little. Not sure what it's called though so I'll just call it...

Peach-IceCream-Crumble

Ingredients

Few Digestive Biscuits
Vanilla Ice Cream
Canned Peaches

The process is super simple.
Basically, it's 3-layers.
First, crumble 1 or 2 Digestive Biscuits into
the base of the glass.
(No need to be in perfect pieces)
Next layer on the peaches, 2 or 3 pieces.
And finally, ice cream with
chocolate shavings on top for decor.

Okay in this case, I piled on the ice cream first, then the peach. And hey, I'm not a professional photographer so I know the photos a bit grainy. I thought it would look nicer in a jar but I guess- Anyway, the real thing had canned cherries not peaches (but it still works), and Jamie poured a little black coffee on it. That's right, over everything. So I guess you could try that too.

One more thing guys, before you leave. There's this book that I recently read, Bittersweet by Sarah Ockler. It's not quite about baking but its REALLY cool. To read more, CLICK HERE. Anyway, at the beginning of the chapters there are some... how do I put it... Examples/Ideas for cupcakes. No recipe just the description.

Cupcakes of Destiny
 White chocolate cupcakes

and dusted with silver sprinkles.

Well, those are the first two, there'll be more in the next few posts. I tried to match the pictures to the description but I'm pretty sure you can get the picture. And, I'm sure you can get the individual recipes for the cupcakes and icing separately. Good luck, and bye for now!

Banana "Ice Cream" and Brownies

So today what we have here are Banana "Ice Cream" and Brownies. Why is the word "Ice Cream" in open and closed inverted commas? You will find out shortly. Now, I don't have the exact written recipe for this Banana treat, but it's so simple you don't even need one. My dad found this recipe on Huffington Post but couldn't remember the link. So:

Candy is my fuel. Ice cream, too.
~ Jane Smiley

Banana 'Ice Cream'

Ingredients
Honey
3 or 4 Bananas

Peel and cut bananas into chunks.
Place in the freezer until it hardens.
Once hardened, sort of like ice cubes,
blend it until it forms a creamy substance
stopping once in a while to mix it a little.
If it gets stuck add in a little water.
So once it looks ice-creamy, put it into a bowl
and serve while cold with a drizzle of honey.

This is a great way to trick stubborn kids into thinking what they're eating is ice cream, when it's actually pure FRUIT. My dad reckons apples and papayas work too. I tried this with papaya and I swear it tastes like sorbet. So go try it you fruit lovers!

I'd like to say something. I know nowadays my blog posts aren't often, and the recipes aren't as interesting as they were before. But it'd be really nice if you keep reading, commenting and help spread the word. Following this blog via email would also be REALLY awesome. Thanks to glittergirl for commenting on my post, Confectionately Yours, Save the Cupcake!: French-toast Cupcakes. It's nice to know people are actually reading.  : D
