Roly Poly

See that? To your right? Yeah that's what my friends and I are going to do over the holidays. The song's called Roly Poly. Don't ask me, I have no idea what that means.

I'm not really a fan of K-Pop but the dance steps are just so damn awesome! And dancing with my friends just makes it all the more fun. :) Don't you think? So we are going over to my friend's house to "rehearse". My other friend said may be if we're good enough, we could perform for teachers' day. But I doubt we will be good enough.

By the way, my new favourite song is A years by Christina Perri. You can view at the video bar at the side. Also, read my previous blog "Escaping Sorrow" just scroll down a little.

I know this Is crazy, but each of us has a character. Mine is Eunjung. That's her stage name, if I'm not wrong. She is the one with the short hair in the video. That's her. I'm going to start practicing now. Cheers.

Escaping Sorrow

I'm running...running...running. Where was I running? Even I didn't know the answer. I just wanted to flee the scene.
Tears streaming down my pale face, darkened by the setting sun. The end of my long white gown was left dragging on the sand dunes. I didn't stop until I my bare feet touched the still ocean water, causing it to ripple and sparkle under the sunset.

I had half a mind to dive in and drown myself, for my life was not worth living for. My tear stained eyes searched for something to use as my "diving board" .
After a while, I spied some sharp rocks in the distance. Perfect. However, something in my mind was holding me back. I wavered, wondering if it was the right thing to do.
Suddenly, I heard voices, it was THEM! Walking, hand in hand, down the beach. I darted off toward the rocks, my feet pit-patting onto the  soft shore of the sea. My heart could take this no longer. I had to end this, NOW.
I climbed up, my dress tearing at the sharp edges of the dreaded rocks. I closed my eyes and stood there completely still. Taking in the last of everything I once had, before I departed into the next dimension.

But before I could jump, someone called my name. "Kim? Kimberly?! What are you..." But before he could finish, I ran off. I didn't dare look back. Fearing he might find out what i was up to.
My aching feet brought me into the forest, snapping twigs here and there. My torn dress, soiled by the sand and sea, was trailing behind me. Tears welled up in my eyes once more, as horrid memories filled my mind.
I had lost everything, even the way out of here. No point in running now. I collapsed onto the damp forest floor and cried myself to sleep.

Pictures, finally!

Lost paradise in the Indian Ocean. Isle of Lamu.

As you might have noticed there have been a few changes around here. Basically I thought Life as I know it would sound like a better name for a blog. And I have also realised I haven't had any pictures or videos posted in my blog. So that's what I've done to make it more interesting.

You see that house up there? That's my dream house. Sweet, isn't it? I would absolutely love to live in this kind of house! Especially with such a big swimming pool! Haha, I'm just joking its obviously the ocean but with water so clear and blue, I could have sworn it was a swimming pool.

      Platform pumps

And these? Don't even get me started on them! Trust me, I really adore fashion, but this is just too much. Seriously, who would wear these out? You'd probably fall and break both your ankles the minute you step out of your house. But you must be thinking: There's got to be one good thing you can say about this! Well, what I love is the creativity, I mean, sure no one would actually wear these but it just gives you the futuristic kinda feel , you know? One of the most interesting ones are those Lady Gaga wore, if you've seen it before, you'd know what I'm talking about.

OK, here's what happened this week: I fell down. That's it that's all you have to say? Just three words? If that's what you're asking, then: Yes, yes that's all. So here's exactly what happened, I was watching Jurassic Park in class with my classmates and was foolishly sitting on two legs of my chair (something that my parents have repeatedly told me not to do), in my excitement, I leaned too far back in my chair and we both (the chair and I) toppled to the ground. I wasn't hurt, just a little frazzled. The whole class clapped for me as I laughed it off and scrambled to my feet. Totally embarassing! So, obviously, I learnt my lesson. But its hard to stop a habit you know?

Okay enough for now, I hoped you liked the pictures. :)

Unbelievable!

First things first, I'm really psyched now that exams are over, but now the teachers are going to return our exam papers and that's the absolute WORST part of an exam, let me tell you. And we're going to go back to the usual schedule and probably the seating arrangement as well. Oh well, I hope at the end of the term we'll be going on an excursion or something...

But the thing is, I'm really writing to tell you readers about what I had witnessed last night. I was walking back to my grandma's house after a filling Mother's Day dinner of Creamy Crab,  BBQ pork ribs and Rice. Yum! A typical Chinese-Singaporean dinner dish really. But that's not the point!

As I was saying, I was walking to my grandma's house, past the void-decks and I caught sight of a mother beating her son (about 3 years old I presume) on the back repeatedly, then turning to beat her supposedly 5-year-old daughter and after that resumed hitting her son. All the while her children were trying to run away from her hard blows, wailing and probably wondering what they did wrong to be receiving such a punishment. I had half a mind to walk up and confront her on the spot, but somehow, I had to see more. And how could a someone like me confront an adult? a fierce one especially. She'd probably beat me to death.

Then, she walked away briskly, abandoning her children at the void deck, but her kids followed her, wailing. "Mummy!" they called. A moment later, I saw the mother grab her son's hand and then run across the road. leaving her daughter trailing behind her avoiding the oncoming traffic.

After crossing the road, she hit full speed and I lost sight of her and her kids. At this point I was very confused as to why she would do such a thing. Maybe she was on drugs, or the children must have done something to really upset her. That is a CR-AZY lady!!! I thought to myself.

I mean sure, people cane and beat their children all the time for punishment but this is different. That woman tried to outrun her kids! Along a roadside too! Outrageous! I mean, ok, maybe the worst punishment I ever got was a severe scolding and a long time-out (my parents aren't too big on punishments), and that's probably why I felt it wasn't fair to these kids. I mean, it is child abuse right?

Later, my family and I, saw her again as I was walking through another void-deck. She was more calm now, sitting down, lecturing her kids while they were standing at a safe distance. She moved her arms as if emphasizing the point she was making. She was still angry though. When she saw her approaching, she immediately shut up. Folding her arms across her chest leaving her kids standing there in an awkward silence. I kept my eyes on her, there was something going on... Then, she briskly walked to another void-deck, her kids trailing behind. I heard another cry from her daughter and that was the last I saw of them.

I seriously hate this behavior, especially coming from a grown woman. I really think she was on drugs, or maybe in a depressed state. If she can do this outside, just imagine what she does to them at home! Those poor, poor kids... :(

My 'Lucky' Day

Today was really lucky... And by lucky I mean not so lucky. Let me tell you exactly what happened...

So, the first bad luck-ish thing was that my calculator managed to find the perfect time to get spoiled. And just before my mathematics examination too! So I called my friend and asked if she had a spare. Fortunately, she did. But it was the older model. No problem, as long as it gets me through the exam, I thought to myself. But that was the night before and not the only thing thing that was in my way.

And this morning GUESS WHAT?! I overslept. Yes, I overslept by half an hour! Half an hour!!! and on an examination day! I glanced at the clock 7.20?! My friends were probably all in school by then. Luckily I didn't stay too far away from school. It was just a 5-10 minute drive from my house. Yep, so I grabbed my stuff and dashed out of the house. Needless to say I didn't have breakfast. And then on my way to school I found out my friend had called saying that she had forgotten to bring her spare calculator. But I didn't really mind, I knew I could borrow one from a fellow classmate. And that was the least of my problems at the moment.

So I got to school thinking I could skip assembly and get to class directly. But just my luck, the prefect directed me to the late corner (or so I call it). I saw some of my classmates standing there so it was good to know I wasn't alone. After assembly, we had to serve our punishments run across the netball court and back, which was already quite fortunate since I've seen worse punishments.

When we got back to class, I was lucky enough to be able to borrow a calculator from my friend. I guess maybe she hadn't forgotten?  I don't know. Just as I thought things were looking up, I looked at the exam paper we were given and realised it was bloody difficult! (as an Englishman would say) I barely had enough time to check, but I did complete it though.

I got back home and told my parents what had happened today and they weren't too happy about the punishment part. I had a lot of things on my mind so I decided to take a long cold shower as if it would wash all my bad lucky-ness away. Since it was the exam period, we were released earlier than usual. My siblings were still in school and I had nothing to do, so I settled for a game of 4-in-a-row ~ with myself. It ended up in a tie so that wasn't very exciting. Most days I would be happy if i were the first one home with no one to disturb me, but today I felt... I don't know, bored? Empty? I couldn't explain it. I was just happy most of my exams were over, just one more to go.

Oh, and the only thing good that happened was that I figured out how to fix my calculator. After the exam...

The Joy of Writing and Reading

Hi guys! Its me again, as usual. I'm actually supposed to be studying my math now but I just can't be bothered. I know, what horrid attitude. Ok, I seem to have forgotten what I was about to type about... Yes, I'm a scatter-brain I know.

Well, okay, nothing much has happened these past few days but, as usual, I got 2nd place in English for my Mid-year Examinations. Ha ha, all those people I'm competing with in studies were like, aww man! so not fair! And I was like: Ha ha! in your faces! I got 2nd place! higher than all of ya!!! (ok, except for the guy in 1st place) But I never would have said that out loud (because I'm way too good for that), instead I just smiled humbly and laughed to myself. See how good I am? Okay, I was just joking I would never be that self-centered. But everyone wants a little humor in a blog right?

AND, today after school my math teacher gave us all a really nice chocolate bar each. Did I mention that chocolate is my weakness? So, anyway, I wanted to save it for later because I wanted to savour it slowly. And I was foolish enough to put it next to me at the bus stop, and when I bent down to tie my shoelaces, this really obnoxious guy in my class walked by and, just like that, took my chocolate bar! MY CHOCOLATE BAR!!! Yes, and he waved it in front of me and ran off just like that. I was like "Calvin!!! come back here!" (btw: not his real name) You might have thought I would jump from my seat and start chasing him. But being my usual lazy self I sat rooted to my seat. Yeah I pretty much couldn't be bothered, I knew he was too fast for me anyways. And it was just a chocolate bar. If he doesn't return it by tomorrow, he's gonna pay...

So, you must be wondering why this blog is called The Joy of Writing and Reading . Here's what you've been waiting for... Okay, for starters, writing or reading is not boring and it is not something a nerd would do. It is something a really sophisticated and smart person would do. Ha ha just joking, you don't have to be sophisticated or smart, you just have love writing and expressing your feelings in this manner.

For example when I'm feeling sad depressed of confused I type a blog entry to sort out my feelings. But you have to watch what you say, really. If you really have to, write a personal letter to yourself. Kinda like  a pep talk. And think of something that inspires you, like for me, music inspires me. And it helps me type a better entry, it pours the feelings out of me (if there's such a thing as that). It just helps me think better, the tempo of the music helps me type faster, like the click-clacking of the keyboard in time to the music. Writing just helps me to better express myself. So basically, yes, I write whats on my mind.

And for reading, well, that's another matter. To enjoy reading, the first step is to find a good book . I mean you can't force yourself to like a book you don't like, right? Then, find a nice comfy spot to settle down. For me, I like to curl up with a good book somewhere dark (but not too dark) by the window when its raining . I like the sound of the rain splish-splashing outside while I'm inside nice and warm. And if you have a really good book with you, make sure you have a lot of time on your hands and no one to disturb you.

Don't you hate when you're reading a really good book and you're coming to a really good part and then someone comes and tells you: An lyn, do this. An Lyn do that. An Lyn its too dark. An lyn, lights off, an Lyn time for bed! Ugh! I'm telling you its super annoying! And also don't listen to music while you're reading. I never do that, I only listen to music while I write. Listening to music while reading is really distracting , you take like 5 minutes to read a whole page and it really slows you down. You mind keeps focusing on the music and doesn't concentrate on the words. Sometimes you can read a whole sentence a few times and not notice it. That's because you're not paying attention.

Yeah, so I think that's pretty much it. And I think this has gotta be the longest blog entry ever! Thanks for taking the time to read it.:)

Thanks to my my best friends for their encouragement, I <3 u guys!!! And also because I really want that ipad ;) So forget about my past blog entries and focus on the new ones! Today's quote:

"Forget the mistakes of the past and press on for the achievements of the future."

Any of you heard of the song "Call Me Maybe"? By Carly Rae Jepson? Its really nice, my friends and I were goofing off while listening to it in school (although some people enjoy K-pop more : D). And now its stuck in my head. I haven't actually had the time to view the M.V. yet but you can view it yourself on my video bar. Some other songs I've heard include: Starships - Nicki Minaj and Give your heart a break - Demi Lovato . Yup that's all for now, if there are any other songs I'll put it up on my video bar soon.

Another site I should have told you guys about earlier is : http://www.epicfail.com/ the failures are endless and...well, epic. And if you absolutely love, love, LOVE watching people fall down, fall off and wiping-out completely, then WATCH THIS!!!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oS7FgjFxxRg and part 2 if your up for it : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDzMRGHtJsQ&feature=relmfu But I'm warning you, watch it on your own time, these two parts take 1hr to watch completely, but their totally worth it!
